I felt depressed when I found out my score.

Sure. You still got time. It would be a good idea to start working on your weakness. There is so much information on tips and advices.

Wish you luck.

Studying and taking the PSAT (and studying for this, too) will raise your score significantly.

Don’t be sad!

It doesn’t count. That’s the purpose of a practice test. And you didn’t study… so what? You know your base score, so now you can improve on it. You should start studying now, most kids do so don’t be embarrassed or anything. Visit the SAT subforum. There are tons of guides, tricks, and advice to use. Remember, the SAT is a STANDARDIZED aptitude test. You can predict the test.

good. then you’ll study harder for your actually SAT

thank you guys…feeling better now,
Do u guys think taking an KAPLAN SAT class will help? and its soooooo expensive. $499 for 10 classes…

Have you looked into the test review books at places like Barnes + Noble or Borders? If you’re self-motivated and good at teaching yourself - they are much less inexpensive!

It might be worth it though - I’m not sure since I’ve never taken one, maybe someone else can offer better insight.

I’ve never taken one before, but I hear they’re worthless / a waste of money.

I’ve heard bad things about Kaplan; go with Princeton Review.

you don’t need to have taken one of those forsaken SAT prep classes to guess at the lurid machinations and mendacious scheming that goes on behind those walls: the disingenuously difficult mock SATS, then the invaluably precious SAT tips and tricks that lurch of out of the larynx of the thing that calls itself the teacher; this followed by the flapping infantile nods of the scammed parent’s unfortunate children; and all of it leading up to the invariable 200-plus score increase, which the kiddos take in stride, rather than audible enthusiasm, it long known to them that the increase ins’t so much feat of effort, but oddly a sort of guarantee.

any good suggestions for prep books? i already got the blue book. I think I need one prep book for each section. any specific book you guys recommend?

^What’s your weakest section?

to tell you the truth…im pretty bad at all three. -.-

buy i think my weakest is the CR section

Joz…Is that you? With worse grammar…?

For passage-based questions, Noitaraperp’s CR tips are really helpful: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/750399-how-attack-sat-critical-reading-section-effectively.html

For vocab, read Direct Hits. Reading miscellaneous stuffs also helps a lot. Every time you come across a strange word, underline it, search for its meaning, and try to use it in a sentence.

Sorry if that doesn’t really help. CR is the hardest part to prepare for. :)

bump! 10char

SAT classes such as Kaplan aren’t that good. They aren’t the key to doing well. I recommend taking 1 if you are completely NEW to the SAT. Any more is a waste of money!

After you are completely aware of everything associated with the SAT go study by yourself. The most important book is The Official SAT Study Guide (aka. blue book). Then get specialized books for CR, Math, and writing. Look for books with explanations or else you’ll keep getting questions wrong without knowing why. Get Writing books with sample essays so you know what to write. Ask your super smart friends for help.

If you have an iPod touch or any smartphone, download a flashcard app and get SAT vocab words on it. Casually flip through those hundreds of words and soon they’ll stick with ease. Don’t try to cram the words in 1 day.

well now you know what you need to study. If you start now by the time you take the real SAT your junior year you should be able to score significantly higher :D
