Got a 1540 on the March SAT's ... and ...

I was planning to take the second one in June but my parents keep telling me to take it in in the fall of my senior year and possibly December of 2009 o_o. The problem is - my SAT teacher told me to take the next one in June but my parents are keep disagreeing saying they are uncomfortable with me taking the next one in June. They feel that I should prepare strong during the whole summer (Everyday of SAT class at a learning center) and I would do better in the fall. Should I just go with my prep teacher and take the second in June or follow my parents advice - prepare during the summer and take the second one in the fall of my senior year? I really need your help.

I don't know if this is realistical but ... let's say if i do take my parents advice and prepare well throughout the whole summer - and take the sat's in the fall. Do you think I can get the score of my goal which is a 1850+ from a 1540? Just wondering. Please be honest. I guess anything is possible?

Yes.

A 1500 demonstrates a lack of familiarity within basic skills of the test (realist, not being offensive here). Such is all trainable.

I’d say 90% of people are trainable to ~ 2000 score range. After that, it comes down to raw smarts, not necessarily raw practice.

lol, I thought it was out of 1600 at first.

^^well you do know that it’s 2009

I was planning to take the second one in June but my parents keep 1 telling me to take it in in the fall of my senior year and possibly December of 2009 o_o. The problem is - 2 my SAT teacher told me to take the next one in June**,** but my parents are 3 keep disagreeing**,** saying they are uncomfortable with me taking the next one in June 4. They feel that I should prepare strong 5 during the whole summer (Everyday of SAT class at a learning center) and I would do better in the fall.

Let us begin the SAT Preparation!

KEPT (needs to match the verb tense)

Omit Dash (or add "that")

Omit "are"

Omit, is redundant

Strongly (describing verb must be adverb)

^ lol give him a break this is the internet. :p

And I’d say if you are concerned enough about SAT scores to be on this site, I think by studying you could greatly improve your score to around an 1800 or so.

my PSAT scores were 144 and 166, I studied for the SAT for about a week and got a 1860 first time in march. Don’t sweat it, it’s definetely possible. :]

If I were you, and money/time is not a problem, I would just take it in both June and October. That way if you do well in June, you don’t have to take it again in October. However, if you don’t do well, you can still take the October Test. That is of course, if it’s feasible for you and not too much of a hassle.

And with the new college board system, colleges only see the scores that YOU want them to see, so if you don’t want them to see your bad SAT scores, they will be unaware of it completely.

Is that new system into effect?

as long as you took a test on/after March 09, then that system is in place

In regards to thequestionmark, you missed an error :D. It should be: “…are uncomfortable with my taking…”
But seriously, just practice, practice, practice.

In regards to thequestionmark, you missed an error . It should be: “…are uncomfortable with my taking…”

No, I don't think so. Then "taking" becomes a noun, so it would have to be "my taking **OF** the SAT". "Ing" endings can generally take a few forms, I'm fairly certain they can be preceded by a pronoun.

I think it’s a matter of what the OP is trying to say - “Me taking” would indicate that the parents are uncomfortable with the OP himself, as me is the object and taking is a participle modifying it. “My taking” would indicate that the parents are uncomfortable with the OP’s specific act of taking the SAT, since taking is a gerund acting as the object and my is an adjective modifying taking.

to thequestionmark, I really don’t want to get into this, but taking in that sentence is a Gerund Object of the preposition. The word “me” is obviously a pronoun, but it needs to be in the possessive case. It is a rule that when a pronoun precedes a gerund, it needs to be in the possessive case. Trust me on this one.

and to what 112358 said, in that case it is a gerund Obj of the prep. The parents have a problem with the taking, not with the “me”.

Just change the whole sentence. It’s a mess.

My SAT teacher suggested that I test again in June, however, my parents are uneasy and would prefer I test again in the fall.

take it in June man don’t take SAT senior year unless you need to because that is the biggest mistake anyone can make. if you do bad in june, take it in october but seriously, do you want to waste your summer with SAT prep??? just think positive and you will perform better, just study concepts, tactics, pratice problems, and do pratice tests and you will be fine, remember that guy who got 144 and 166 to 1860 so it is possible.
