Got accepted but may have ruined it

My son is calling the admissions office tomorrow to find out what’s up with the 3.0 GPA each term restriction. I’ll let you know what the outcome is. I believe it is a situation that you must advise them of or you could really be in jam. Better off now than later–when they might revoke their acceptance and then you’ve not accepted at another college (perhaps another UC wants you and then you’re really out!).

agh thank you… that makes me really nervous…

metabon: My son tried calling the admissions office today. You need to call the general UC Berkeley operator and ask to be transferred. Be prepared to sit on hold (he held for nearly a half hour and had to leave for a sport so I then got to hang on). After I reached a warm body to speak to, the person was very gracious and helpful. She did ask me his name, and student number. I explained that he’d submitted his GPA information on the supplemental questionnaire, and wanted to clarify that they saw the grades, and as long as his grades this semester were the unweighted 3.0 there wouldn’t be a problem. She put me on hold and came back and advised me that my son should write a letter to one of the assistant directors of admissions (I won’t give name here), and that he should explain all this in his letter, and ask for confirmation of acceptance. I suggest you contact admissions and try to find out what steps you should take. Better to know now than later, when you’ve missed out on the opportunity to accept at another university.

Looks like this is something people can take advantage of next year. No complaints

Wow they replied to you already hopefully I get a reply thats something like that.
And what do u mean people can take advantage of it next year?

Ahhh thank you for finding out for me. It’s too late today so I’ll give them a call tomorrow. Thank you!

Received word that as long as spring grades meet the conditions they’ve established, all is okay.

^so a change of schedule like dropping 2 classes would be alright? (as long as u get A’s /B’s in the rest of the classes).

Different situation, Abdallah. The poster’s son submitted first semester grades to Cal (due to a supplemental request from the school) and they made the admissions decision having that information in front of them.

For most, they decide based only on 10 and 11th year grades and your stated plan for senior year classes. A change they did NOT see when they admitted you is a bigger deal than the situation for parentofmen, but the solution is the same. I believe you already contacted them, might want to speak on the phone to bolster your chances. Once they decide it is okay, you have no problems if you do what you commit (final semester meeting conditions and any substitute classes get taken in summer). Until they respond, there is no way to know.

Thanks rider and all the people that replied to my concern and advised me to contact the admissions office. They finally responded and gave me some good news. Here’s what they sent me:

Very pleased to hear you will be attending Cal. Go Bears!

Hi!

Well, i contacted one admissions officer and she told me that as long as the whole year’s unweighted GPA meets the requirement for the first semester, everything will be ok but on the website it says that each semester must be notified of it so i called again and the second person asked me to send in a letter explaining what happened. I’m confused, please help me out.

Send the letter.

Based on others’ situations, I don’t think my admissions acceptance will be affected, but would still like to hear input. :)

So in my application I put that I had two electives:
Acting I
Personal Choices

But because of time conflicts, I changed my Acting I class to Visual Communications I.
And the Personal Choices class category LABEL changed (not the class itself; and for those wondering, basically this is a self-study and leadership class i took because my schedule had only one semester spot open for only one time, so this was last option) to Teaching Academy.

So I made letter and am mailing it, this is what it looks like:

To Whom It May Concern,

Due to course schedule conflicts for second semester of my senior year (12th grade),
I changed my elective class of Acting I to Visual Communications I.

Also, for first semester of my senior year, I listed one of my elective courses as Personal Choices in my application, however the course category label (only) has changed to Teaching Academy. Attached is my senior year schedule with my counselor’s signature to document and validate the above changes to my school schedule.

Should you have any questions regarding my schedule, please feel free to contact my counselor, (name), at (email address).

This should be fine right? Is there anything I should add?
I’m super worried that they’ll rescind my admission… :frowning: it is a possiblity after all, even if slim.

Appreciate any advice/help! :)

You are being very cautious but once you get official word that this won’t matter at all, you will be much more relieved than if a dozen people here tell you it doesn’t matter. I say, go send the email/letter and then you can stop worrying.

Go Bears
