I got accepted to UCLA! MY first choice was computer science engineering. But I got accepted to my alternate choice, electrical engineering. I am still happy though, but why did UCLA not offer me admission to my primary choice? Thanks.

From what I remember, CS is one of the most popular majors to apply to while EE isn’t. So, likely you were good enough to get in under EE, but not CS.

Does this mean I won’t get into Berkeley because they didn’t think I was too good for CS. And Berkeley is more competitive, I applied for EECS there. I really want to go to Berkeley. Is there still a possibility?

3rd-year Computer Science & Engineering major here, if you arrive as an EE it’s pretty easy to switch to CS&E. The programs are pretty similar. CS (and its offshoot CS&E) is a very big program (lots of students) so it’s common to be admitted to an alternate major, but once you’re here and in the school of engineering it’s pretty easy to switch into another type of engineering in general.

Whether or not you get into Berkeley as EECS I can’t say – maybe ask on the Cal board. EECS is a double major so if you get into either EE or CS I don’t see why you can’t declare the other as a second major, but I could be wrong since EECS is somewhat of a special circumstance. Like I said ask on the Cal board (if you haven’t already).
