Got Accepted to FIU, Lots of Questions

Hey, I'm from Fort Lauderdale and I got accepted to FIU for the summer term and I have a lot of questions that I'm hoping a student or someone who knows enough about the school could answer:

1) Which campus do you think should be better for a freshman to live on?

2) Was it smart to apply to summer? What's the difference between summer term and fall term?

3) What's the campus life like?

If anyone could give me an answer or opinion to at least one of these questions I'd greatly appreciate it!

3) There is virtually no campus life, since most of the students there come from the area so they mostly just commute. My sister says the campus is nice-ish, but if you’re looking for a vibrant campus life, don’t go to FIU. However, Miami does have a great nightlife, and at least FIU is nicer than Miami-Dade?

Surely there must be some campus life, I mean some people do live on campus. Does anyone know anything about the Greeks?

1.) Modesto A. Madique/ University Park Campus is definitely a better choice for a freshman. I have spent time on both, mostly on the University Park Campus with my two brothers, and it is the better choice, in convenience, night life, and atmosphere. Generally its the better choice. Its definitely where I’m going next year.

2.) Its actually better that you’re starting in the summer because first day of Fall term, when its absolutely PACKED up the ass with incoming freshmen, you’ll know where you’re going, you get ahead a few credits (7 if your in a fig or 9 if you choose your own classes) and you get the summer requirement out of the way. (Freshman after 2010 are required to do 9 credits during the summer throughout their 4 years.) I’m incoming in the Fall Term though.

3.) Campus life isn’t as bad as people say. Not nearly so, its actually quite good. Of course when people compare it relatively to Miami, the city that was voted to have the Best Night Life, how can it not fall short? You meet alot of great people there, and there’s always something to do or somewhere to go in Miami, on-campus or off, no matter where you are. Campus life is fun, and I love the atmosphere and the people.

As For GRΣΣK Life:

FIU has over 30 fraternities and sororities divided into four governing councils: the Interfraternity Council (IFC), the Panhellenic Council (PC), the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), and the Multicultural Greek Council (MGC). The Order of Omega, a Greek honor society, has had a chapter at the university since 1991 and represents the academic top 3% of FIU Greeks. The Interfraternity Council (IFC) comprises 12 fraternities. The Panhellenic Council (PC) is made up of 7 sororities. The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) comprises 8 historically-black organizations, (4 fraternities and 4 sororities). The Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) consists of 7 cultural organizations for Latinos, Asians, and South Asians, (4 fraternities and 3 sororities). One of the biggest and best fraternities to join is Pi Kappa Alpha (called Pike on-campus) is a secret social fraternity with 280 chapters and colonies in the United States and Canada. It is one of the top ten largest and oldest college fraternities in the United States, with over 200 chapters nationwide. It is currently the largest greek letter college fraternity in terms of average chapter size. The largest Fraternity house under a roof in the United States is a Pi Kappa Alpha House.
