Got any idea of what my chances are?

I'm going to be a junior in high school. I go to a really competitive school, but it's public. I want to know what my chances are of getting into Columbia and other schools at that level. I want to do pre-med stuff. I have taken the ACT only once and I plan on taking it again along with the SAT. I got a 34 on my ACT. My GPA unweighted so far is a 3.5, but im taking all of the hardest classes possible at the highest levels and will be taking APs. So my weighted GPA is a 4.8
My extra curriculars include
-Vollyball Team-Freshman Year
-Social Service Groups
-Volunteering at the hospital-130 hours
-International Club
-Student Senate
-Girl's Choir-Freshman Year
-Concert Choir-Sophomore Year
-Concert Choir, Choir Opera, and Swing Choir-Junior Year
-and i plan on taking the same three choirs again senior year.
-I've been in two musicals.
-Improvisation Group
-AIDS Awarness Club
-Dance-Soph, Junior, Senior Years
-I did research this summer in a lab at the University of Illinois at Chicago

What else do I need/should I do? Do i need to improve upon my GPA?

Well, the first thing you need to do is to understand how to compute your weighted GPA. Since a weighted GPA can never be more than 1.00 points above your regular GPA, it is impossible for you to have a unweighted GPA of 3.5 and a weighted GPA of 4.8.

That said, you got a 34 on the ACT as a sophomore/early-year junior--so you should do okay on the other required tests. (Columbia requires two SAT IIs). However, 3.5 is not very competitive for Columbia--and especially not if you plan to go pre-med. You'll need to get a 4.0 this year to get that average up to around 3.7, and you'll need good test scores on the tests mentioned above, plus good AP tests. You'll also need two good recommendations from teachers. Then you'll have a shot.

Good luck.
