Okay so I’m not the typical freshman year screw up but because of the higher aspirations I have I didn’t do all that great. I had an 3.86 weighted gpa taking all honors. Sophomore I took all honors again and got a 4.2 weighted gpa. 4.0 scale. I’m taking almost all APs next year (highest level of classes that my school offers). I got a 200 on psats (no preparation-yet). I am in student council, national science honor society. various clubs. 2 sports (captain of 1). I am a volunteer tutor and counselor at a summer camp and applied to volunteer at a hospital. I’m top 5 ranked in my class. I really want to know what my chances are of getting into ivy league schools such as upenn or columbia and what can I do to to make these chances better.
It’s impossible tell without seeing test scores and extracurriculars. What’s your unweighted GPA?
Your GPA seems low at first glance, but your class rank is very high, which is arguably more important as it places you in context of your school, so I would not worry too much. A 200 is excellent with no preparation! Some studying should bump that up about 150-200 points, which will put you in decent ranges for those schools. If you study a lot and break 2250, then you have even more advantage. I think you should certainly apply, and maybe consider Brown and Dartmouth also. They are similarly ranked in subjects that Upenn and Columbia are proficient in. Utilizing an early decision in ivy league application is always a good idea as well. Good luck!
I think you should look at slightly lesser schools like Wake Forest. I’m sure you can make into those.
My sophomore unweighted is still a 4 and I’m not really sure about freshman. I have a decent amount of extracurriculars, as much as I can while being on two sports teams. I’m trying to get my weighted up since I’m taking more APs.
I know! I’m trying to get it up by taking courses with a higher weight junior year. Thanks!
I’m also looking at bc, university of maryland, fordham, penn state, binghamton… Columbia and UPenn are my reach schools.
