got arrested

Would it affect ur admission if you got arrested for shoplifting?

Lol... What do you think?

well no police were involved, no citation, no summon, they only got my information down and they said it wont go into my record or anything but i cant apply for a job at macy, and the information they took will stay internal they wont release it to somewhere else. they didnt take my fingerprint or anything but i got a civil demand from them to pay for the amount i stolen and then some.

I guess it sounds like you are going to get a break, but what the hell were you thinking. Whatever you were stealing it wasn't worth risking a college education over.

yea im actually gald that i got caught , it was like a wake up call for me. i will never try anything like that ever again. the lost pervention guy said if i lied to him about stealing he woulve called the cops then i wouldve been in big trouble. so as long as i pay for the civil demand i will be fine? do u guys how much civil demand is? the item i stole cost around 75

I think the civil demand amount allowed may vary by State. Try googling your State and Civil Demand. From googling it it seems like the civil demand is a fine they are allowed to charge you for the shoplifting. Googling it I came across anecdotal stories about people being fined $200 to $500.

do i have to go to court?

I heard its a $20,000 dollar fine i suggest you get a lawyer

no is less then 500 dollars but do i have to go to court?

Hey bro, I got caught shoplifting from Macy's a few years ago. They just took my photo, wrote my name, said I could never go in without an adult till i was 18. They also said they would get rid of the record. The fee was about $250, the stuff I stole was about $120. It was pretty weak.

And it sounds like you weren't really arrested right? If the security dude just talks to you, it shouldn't be too big a deal.

Also, are you a minor?

And who the hell said $20,000? ***?

I think if you pay it by the deadline you should not have to got to court. From reading about it that is the point - to avoid the expense of a court case. However I am basing that opinion on what I have been able to find on the internet and not on any personal knowledge or legal expertise.

my time cost around 70 dollars, how much do u think theyll charge me for. thank god im 18 or they woulve called my parents. the security was pretty nice cuz i didnt lie to him i was being honest with him. he said nothing will be released all the record will be keep internal. but im worrying i might not have enough money to pay for the fine. how much would they charge for me 70 dollars item??? thanks. o btw did u go to court or anything and what will be the mail title be? macy west civil department or it wills say civil court. i

haha, you're lucky dude, I was like 14 I think, and my dad was so ****ed, I thought he was about to strangle me.

I forgot what the letter said, my dad took it and took care of it. Maybe Macy's recovery program or something? It was very official looking and such. I believe the universal fee is about $200-250 if you stole less than $150.

I was caught with a friend who only stole like a 20 dollar tshirt, and they charged him $250

Yeah, run home every day and check your mail

good luck bro

my parents will get to the mail before i do lol ***..... how official does it say federal deparrment or it will says macy'west civil recovery deparment cuz my LP says the letter will say nothing about stealing stuffs it will only say that i promised to pay certain amount. so after i paid for my fine this thing will be over right? or they still have the right to press charges against me and is it common for them to do that?

Sorry bro, i don't really remember much about the letter. I think that once you pay it, it should be cool.

GL bro

y the hell is everyone shoplifting at Macy?(including me). Does Macy have special aura to it or something? i got caught shoplifting at Macy's too, it was like 5 years ago or something....it was a nightmare, the store detained me, and call my parents and they called a cop to send me home...****!.....u could imagine the reaction of my parents.....it still gives me the chill when i think about it!

would they school care if u got a misdermeaner record or felony?

dang, well this thread has taught me to never mess with macy's! haha.
sorry i can't give you any advice, but goodluck.

go to nordtroms, no security tags. duh!!

not that i would know. trust me, its much better to just buy the damn shirt.

I know its probably past done and everything, but I dont think the school cares much about our personal lives, only that we get a 3.0 and that we pay the money by the deadline that its due. As long as you dont get expelled from your school, which shouldn't happen since it doesn't involve the school at all, your in the clear and shouldn't worry much at all.

Thats a minor thing and the cops werent even involved so I guess it would fall under misdermenor maybe even minor infraction at most. So thats not that much of a big deal

Also..... Macy's is extremely hard to shoplift at trust me I have a close friend that use to work there... Unless you have an inside person to change the price of something its not worth going and even then you can jeapordize there job by doing so especially if they are new cause the Security people watch them more than experianced people..... it should have been Mervyns man... Mervyns.... gooo into the dressing room pick up some clothes head to a inexperianced and uncaring cashier, return the stuff for store credit, take that credit to a different Mervyns and by yourself something nice... Says it all on the internet.... amazing what you can find these days on the internet it really is.....

Not that you should do that or anything, thats just what I did in the past...
