Got deferred from Georgetown University.... Need Safety Schools

It means, apply to SUNY Albany (mentioning Honors) as well as Bing and Geneseo today. Sunyapply should be a breeze. Or UVermont. Just hurry. Get it done today, don’t think about it afterwards, but have your bases covered.

Ask yourself: would you rather be at a small college in a cool metropolis (like Macalester) or at a large college in a so-so city (SUNY Albany)? Apply to both if you have the slightest doubt you might not lie SUNY Albany honors. Don’t be the (common March30- April 2nd) incredible, top performing kid who only had one safety they didnt like because they secretly thought they would not need to go.

Ask your parents how much they can afford. Run NPCs on all your universities. Talk about cost and ake sure you only apply to afffordable colleges.

Then, add 2-3 afffordable colleges with admission rates in the 25-35% range and express interest.

Have your GC review your letters of recommendation in case one has a problem.

For a curve-ball, what about St Andrews Scotland or Trinity Dublin? They will cost less for a full-pay student, are world-class institutions, and admission is stats based rather than holistic.

Seconding Trinity Dublin, St Andrews, or McGill.

Last year Georgetown told the candidates they deferred during EA (which was all applicants not accepted since as another poster noted they don’t deny during EA) that they had a 10% chance of being accepted during the RD round. I know this because my daughter had similar stats and a similar profile and was also deferred from Georgetown during EA. She did not get in during RD nor did she get in to any other super selective school (many of which overlap with the OPs list). So while I hope OP has a very successful RD round she would be wise to add more safeties to her list. UMass Amherst and GW are probably good safeties already on her list.

My DD is now at UMd in their Honors College and is loving it. She got a $12k per year merit scholarship so it is way more affordable than any of the selective schools she might have attended.

If money is not a concern (because merit deadlines may have already passed) OP can consider many of the out of state flagships with strong Honors Colleges.
