My daughters first choice is to go to Penn State! Hands down 100% that is where she wants to go. She applied to 6 colleges with Rutgers and University of Delaware being the closest two in comparison with Penn State, with regards to admission requirements. She applied to PSU on 10/25 and to Rutgers on 10/29 (during the hurricane before we lost power). She was accepted to two colleges at Rutgers, New Brunswick on 11/7, only 9 days later! Her PSU application has had the reviewing your
decision posted here shortly message since 10/29.

She is an all-star cheerleader and only applied to UP as she wants to continue to cheer in college. But we have not heard yet? She also selected summer session as a backup. She is checking her account every morning and getting really anxious. I told her not to worry, that no news is good news and she has already been accepted to two great schools, including Rutgers, that is now part of the Big 10 with Penn State.

As for her stats, she has a 3.7 GPA, 7 honors classes, NHS, 1690 SAT, 25 ACT, no legacy, but lots of ECs including her All-Star cheerleading where she is a level 5 cheerleader and has competed at the World Championships. She wrote about her cheerleading in her personal statement and how competing at the level takes drive, determination and commitment, all qualities that will help her succeed in college. So what do you think? Does she have a good chance to get in to Penn State UP?

Her stats put her in the somewhat “iffy” range. They are actually very similar to my daughter’s - although my daughter has a slightly lower GPA, but a higher SAT score. Like your daughter, cheerleadeing is very important to my daughter - she really wants to cheer at PSU. She currently cheers for a very competitive high school team and is a 5 time NCA All American. My daughter applied in September and still hasn’t heard. I’ve been told the delay is always a good thing for a iffy applicant. Hopefully they both get in and will be cheering at Penn State next fall.

Let’s hope so AACheermom! What HS does your daughter cheer for? Mine never did high school, went right into All-star and cheers for World Cup in Freehold NJ.

I like to remain anonymous on here, so I’d rather not say what school. But it is a large suburban school with a long history of comepting nationally in cheerleading. Compared to the All Star squads around here, her school’s squad is much more highly thought of. They all have high level gymnastics and stunting skills.

@aacheermom…I understand, Good luck and hope to see you at UP next year!

Is your daughter going to Penn State? Did she make the squad? My daughter made the squad and is so excited!

Yes, she was accepted at University Park and will be attending in the fall. No, she was not selected for one of the cheer teams:( She was compeating with her team in Nashville the weekend of tryouts and had to submit a video tryout. There was a problem with her video which made her ineligible to be selected. What squad did your daughter make…CoEd or All-Girl? Mine will try out in person for sure next year.

She was thrilled to make the coed squad! Was that the squad your daughter was trying out for? It probably would be best for your daughter to try out in person. I wonder if our daughters are already talking because I think my daughter is talking with a number of cheerleaders she met through the facebook class of 2017 group.

They didnt ask her to specify in the video application, but I would think All-Girl, as she is a main base. One of the other girls from our gym, who is a flyer, made the CoEd team at PSU. Do you know how many freshman made either squad? I heard there were 25 returning Juniors selected?

Not sure how many freshmen made either squad, but I do remember my daughter telling me that they told the girls if they didn’t make it this year to try again next year because there will be a lot of girls graduating next year.
