You are taking AP Japanese right?
I was wondering how deep into the language the course goes. I know how to read/write hiragana and katakana, but I don't know any kanji yet. I don't know many words yet, but I'm using the "Japanese for Busy People" books to learn. I used/am using the "Remembering the Kana" books for the written language. I really wish my school offered the course :/

Pistolen,

I'd say my class is at maybe 5th grade Japanese school level.Right now, we're really focusing on kanji and practicing extensively for the AP exam. There are a lot of words and phrases we don't know, so we pretty much have to use context clues, and such.
We know about 900 separate kanjis right now, and who knows how many combinations. We also really go into the Japanese culture, because the AP exam will have free responses were we will have to talk about the differences between Japanese culture and American culture:schools, hotels, and even valentine's day.You should be able to self-study the language!(not for the AP exam, but just enough to have simple conversations and write letters and such).Only thing that i think will give you trouble,in my opinion,is the particle usage;and the many many exceptions the Japanese language has;such as how they call their green traffic lights blue, haha.

Anymore questions?

I got mine a while ago....
AP Lit-A
AP Macroecon-A
Band (Honors...haha)-A
AP Calc BC-A
AP Physics-A
AP Psych-A
AP Stats-A

For a fabulous weighted GPA of...4.93. Pretty sure it bumped me up like 10 spots as far as class rank goes. Hooray!

Thanks for the tips!

How many years have you been studying Japanese? I plan on taking the formal classes at FSU and doing a study abroad there during a summer/semester/year. I will have to get an actual grammar book to learn the particulars of the language, but I expect it will take quite some effort. I tried using the Rosetta Stone software, but I think it moves too fast into the material. I stopped using it for now, but I think I might use it again for the conversational part, once I master the written kana.

Congratulations! Keep up the fine work! :D
