Got Rejected ED to Wharton, any ideas why?

btw melt: we come fr the same country! (jus read ur post abt being in NS)
all da best till ORD!

bump------

elemental_right: oh cool, another singaporean. That brings the number of singaporeans i know entering penn this year to 5! haha
Anyway, whats the question that you need to ask her? why dont you email the undergraduate admissions email, they have always replied me without fail. Were you there for elizabeth o'connell's Penn "recruitment" talk in the Arts house earlier this year?

hm.. no.. im not entering Penn YET.. i got deferred. tt's y i wanna ask her how i can push my application to acceptance! haha.. cos.. we don't have additional mid-yr report to send.. the lastest i got is my prelim results? there's only a couple of new activities i got involved in.. but that won't boost my application much u see..
hm.. i wasn't at the Arts House this yr.. cos i attended the Penn talk last yr at Shangri La and figured out tt it will kindof be the same.. Furthermore, Elizabeth o'connell visited my school during her trip to Singapore too

hey best of luck anyway. If you did well for your prelims, you should definitely send it in, even if you get something along the lines of AABC (AABC is fantastic in my opinion given the difficulty of the premier singapore school preliminary exams).

You should go to the threads where they discuss how to reverse a deferral. Many of the ideas are pretty good. What school are you from? RJC? Hope the A-levels went well for you (i'm pretty sure it did :))

wow.. u noe wad.. that's exactly wad i got.. i hate it.. cos my B is 1 mark away from an A and my C is one mark away from a B, n the teachers just didn't want to give me tt mark!
anyway... i sent those in already with my ED application.. i even sent my s paper results..
nah.. im not from RJC.. tt sch's too far from m place..

damn my stupid teacher forgot to send in my S paper results...not that it will make a difference anyway..
elemental_rights: our prelim results sounds similar..and I think it will appear terrible in the eyes of the admission officers. bah.

Results don't matter that much, as you can obviously see from the threads which show the stats of the Penn acceptees. Most of us (people who do not have STELLAR grades) have came up with the conclusion that grades aren't what's most important. Your teacher recommendations, essays and extracurriculars are more important. I'm not trying to say that you can screw up your A-levels, IB, or SATS and still make it, you have be of a certain academic level. But AABC aint bad, because your projected A-level grades will be AAAA for sure, unless your teachers are bit*hes.

If you can, find something special or unique about yourself that can set you apart from the rest of the applicants; something that will really attract the adcoms and make it hard for them to not accept you.

Good luck!

completely agreed. These guys aren't the cold hearted people everyone on this board assumed they were. If you want wharton, i think it's imperative that you stress personality rather than scholastic achievement, as this is what the defferred people with high scores on this bored seem to have failed to do given their attempt to show their strong and professional side. Best of luck to you.
