Don't concentrate on criminal (even if its not really criminal) acts in your essays. It's like shining a light on the skeletons in your closet. Just write a little explanation and colleges will most likely ignore what happened. Also, if possible, have your counselor write a letter (when the time comes) explaining that it was really no big deal.

This guy in the NYC area who publicly "exposes" companies, law officials, etc. who are ripping off or being unfair to people in the city.
It's a local thing but funny to watch on the news.

it's not really a criminal act, though. this kid was totally humiliated. he was put in handcuffs and taken to jail over nothing. the essay could be about how he persevered and kept showing pride in his school work even after administrators/cops labeled him a thug because of his race/neighborhood/family situation.

Anyway, I found out that I might be transferred to my neighborhood school. Which would essentially be the end of the world. There are going to be hearings and conferences first though. So we'll see where it goes.

OP could very well be telling the truth. I would definitely agree with fighting the suspension. If you that is all you did, then yes, get the press involved. A 5-Day suspension is a pretty big deal. How did they find out you had scissors in the first place? Was there any conflict between you and anyone else that would give the impression you brought it as a weapon?

^I agree. I don't usually like the idea of playing the race card, but it's justified here. Completely justified. Fight for your right to the best education you can--and an alternative to this ridiculous incident.

If you want to stay at your current school don't get the press involved. They're gonna hate you for making them look bad, so only do it if you're gonna go to the other school.

No of course they have to let you in, but I think it would make it awkward to talk to your principal after that. It would just create much more tension then there already is.

Write your essay on this. You'd get into any school you apply to lol.

But I'm sure colleges will understand if you attach a note explaining what happened. Most people in their right minds would find this way out of line.

I mean, if you had incapacitated your holding officer using the scissors, stole his firearm, and made a run for it, then all of that would have been be justified. But other than that...
