Fight this as hard as you can to stay at that school if that's what you really want. And if they kick you to the ghetto school, alert the media and do as much as you can to take the school down with you.

What's the worst thing that could happen? You're already getting kicked out, why not do your best to humiliate the school that did the same to you?

At least that's what I'd do.

If you play the cards right (pull the race card), this would probably become very public, you might get on Oprah! The story would at least show up on the Yahoo front page for 5 minutes. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Ah, thanks. I don't know for sure if I'm getting kicked out.

I have to go through the "procedures" first.

this really needs to be on top

Ridiculous. Don't you already have scissors in school?

If they don't make you transfer, just mention how ridiculous it was on an essay.

If they do, take it to the media. Getting kicked out of a good school for a pair of scissors = adequate reasons for publicly shaming a school.

even better...THREATEN to take it to the media ;)

you're leaving something out - point blank.

You don't have to believe me, that's fine.

But that is the whole story.

have you been a trouble before this incident, maybe this is a third strike for you

i have doubts. i have such doubts.

you seem quite happier in this thread.

Nah, I've never been in trouble. I had lunch detention once for cutting a class. The admin doesn't even know about that.

That's the whole, stupid story.

And the other topic is a lot lighter than being suspended and arrested.

c.amutah, I'm really sorry that this happened to you. I was literally thinking about it for much of the day... :(

It's truly insane, and I hope you'll keep us updated on what happens.

This is crazy... at my school teachers have scissors on their desks, lying there wide open.

Maybe you should live in the suburbs.

Thanks guys. Today was international day which is usually amazing and i missed it.

:) I got a letter today saying I was officially suspended for 5 days and have to go to a conference on Monday. Then they will decide to recommend me for expulsion. The letter was pretty vague as to whether that was final or if we could change that.

And to top it all off, even if I don't get expelled tomorrow is the deadline for course selection. So if I do get to stay, I'll probably have no honors/AP courses and stupid electives. Because I was going to take Geo/Alg 2 concurrently next year so that I can take calculus senior year. But you have to apply for that and I don't think I can do it while suspended.

I think I can answer my own question. My life is about 75% over.

Why stay? If they decide not to expel you at the conference, flip them off, say horrendous things and transfer. If they do expel you, flip them off, say horrendous things, then find a new path in life.

^ You don't get it man. Going from my current magnet to my neighborhood school is like going from the White house to Guantanamo bay. I need to stay.

This is pretty crazy, your whole situation. I bring a pocket knife to school everyday (i mean, you never know when a knife will be more useful than scissors), and have even brought large metal scissors. Last week I literally ran into the school 2 hours late, holding just scissors and my ID, then ran to class to with the scissors (I know, don't run with scissors, but I was in a rush) to finish my poster real quick before class started.

--This is absolutely the most ridiculous punishment I have ever heard. In my city, in the suburb, I just can't imagine the school getting away with such nonsense. I say that you should sue the school and use the money to go to a way better private school, then send them a post card from Harvard four years from now.

Hahahaha.

I know it sounds ridiculous but I've looked into the rules and regulations and found that:
1. scissors are considerd weapons
2. a student who brings a weapon has to be suspended
3. they have to be recommended for expulsion
4. it doesn't matter the intent

A lot of these rules are post-Columbine or post-Virginia Tech, when all the parents were scared.
My mom is on the phone with a lawyer as I type this.
