Goucher MT opportunities?

I realize Goucher is a BA theatre program, was just wondering if they have any MT opportunities on campus, mainstage shows, Private voice lessons?

thanks... Didn't see a thread for Goucher in the section above so thought I'd ask it here...

Since no one has answered, I''ll step in. Private voice lessons are available, but for some (non-majors?) there may be an additional fee. MT is common for student-run productions, but my memory fails me re: whether faculty-staged productions are ever musical theater.

Though this wasn't what the original poster asked, I wanted to chime in and say that Goucher is located in a community/area with a thriving community theater scene in which musicals play a huge part. (Not that anyone asked, but the campus also is just beautiful.)

Thanks, actually any relevent info on Goucher would be appreciated.... D has safety list narrowed down to Goucher, Muhlenberg, Rollins, and Sarah Lawrence.... need to narrow it down to two, by Monday.. Muhlenberg top of the list, SLC on bottom, so Goucher kind of competing with Rollins for the number two spot......

Goucher is a great school. However, Rollins is a bit more selective than Goucher (I know your D is a good student and so Rollins could still be a safety for her). Rollins offers a MT emphasis and Goucher doesn't. I recommend both schools, don't get me wrong. The locations are very different of course. I think for MT, Rollins might offer more than Goucher but by the same token, Goucher would be on my list for a safety school for someone of your D's qualifications who loves theater.

In general, which school is more generous with Merit and or artistic scholarships.... if there are any general trends on that.. (Goucher/Rollins)

Can't speak for Rollins, but Goucher was generous. And (although you didn't ask) the dance training appears to be 1st rate, and non-majors have access to the lessons.

I think for a student like your D, Goucher could very well offer her a merit scholarship (they have many). I agree with jasmom that Goucher has excellent dance and in fact, many girls from our dance studio chose to go to Goucher.

Goucher is very very well known in our immediate area for the excellence of its dance program, dance students and its faculty.

Rollins does have audition based scholarships. Not sure how many or how much they cover.

When we looked at Goucher a few years ago, MT was not available except some student run musical productions. I'm sure, though, that one could separately take dance, voice, and theatre.

There is no formal "MT" degree in any college in the state of Maryland. You have to do a combo ... dance, theatre and/or voice as part of a music, theatre or dance major.

I would recommend you compare U of Maryland in College Park to Goucher. U of MD is strong in all three though as separate programs. Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center is fantastic. Performances are top notch.
