Compare, contrast. My son is deciding between these three schools. He is shy, more sporty than artsy. Not a big partier, but not a nerd either. Hopes to play lacrosse but would need some other outlet if that didn't work out.

Typical underachieving male due to the belief that most high school assignments are a "waste of time" but assures me he is going to work very hard in college.

Financial aid and scholarships available at all.

Goucher is a very good school, IMO. However its student body does tend to be on the artsy, quirky side and, based upon what you mentioned in your post, it would might not be a great fit for your son. Unfortunately, I don't know too much about either Susquehanna or Ursinus, but best of luck to your son.:)

Thanks! I do know about Goucher as my daughter goes there, and as much as my head would love to have them in the same place, I am not sure it's the best fit for him.

Ursinus is a fine school. Best programs (I am told by my step-sister-in-law, who is the chair of the business program) are biology/pre-med, communications (especially broadcast journalism), and business.

Ursinus is in a very small town and is not close to Philadelphia. It is fairly easy (the school runs busses, I think) to get to Valley Forge and King of Prussia Mall. I have spent a lot of time in Collegeville, and while I like it, I think it would get old for a college student after a couple of years. Academics are strong, though.

We looked at Susquehanna and I thought it suffered by proximity to Bucknell. I don't know how that would affect its sports scene, though. It, like Ursinus, is quite isolated.

Ursinus and Susquehanna both have decent men's lax teams and good sports across the boards, as has been said.

I do know someone who was fairly actively recruited by the coach at Susquehanna and yet didn't make the team, so you'll want to make sure that you and S are keeping your eyes and ears open all the time, and that you have a solid understanding of what his chances are, if the lax thing is a really big part of his decision. Apparently they do have a very active club program, though.

In the worst-named department, Ursinus and Goucher get to compete only because the all-time champion retired a few years ago when "Arcadia University" was adopted as the new name for (formerly all-female) Beaver College.
