Hi there :) I'm a prospective student curious about the Government department at Harvard. For current students, what makes Harvard such a special place to study Government and International Relations? Who have been your favorite professes and their classes?

On one specific point, I've heard lots about Professor Steven Levitsky and his Government 20 course. Apparently though, he's been on leave this year. As a current applicant, should I expect him to resume teaching the course in Fall 2011? Also, does Stephen Walt teach any courses at the moment?

Would appreciate any additional information. Best wishes to all applying!

I’m not in the government/social sciences fields of concentration, so I’m not able to tackle the questions in your first paragraph very well.

Steven Levitsky should be back for the 2011-2012 academic year and is currently listed as expected to teach one undergraduate focused class - Government 1295 (Comparative Politics in Latin America) (Spring term) - and two graduate level classes - Government 2131 (Comparative Politics of Latin America) (Fall term) and Government 2136 (Political Regimes and Regime Change) (Fall term).

Stephen Walt will be teaching Government 1732 (The Origins of Modern War) (Spring term).
