Will I get in?
I have taken biology, chemistry, earth and environmental sciences, and physics pre-junior year and am now taking IB courses (full diploma). I scored a 97+ on all four honors exams.
My GPA is 3.95/4.7685
I had strong awards and honors with…
Keystone Award for IB

Eagle Scout Project Completion
IB MYP Certificate
Community/School activities
Three Varsity Sports

A bunch of other stuff like that
My essays were strong; they were about gay rights and 3D bioprinting fully functioning organs.
Letters of recommendations
One was strong and then the other was okay
Will I get in? I’m really worried because my school is really competitive.
Do you go to NC School of Science and Math. Not trying to be stalkerish here but I’m in NC here too and that’s basically the only school that is very competitive.
No I don’t. I go to a full IB Diploma School though and we have about 30 kids turning in applications (they are ALL extremely qualified)
I think you have a good chance. GS attracts a wide array of students strong in different areas, but it may come down to how you compare to the people in your county/school. If you are doing as much as you can at your school academically and your essays are strong, you have a decent chance.
I attended GSE this year for Nat Sci (I’m assuming you’re applying for that) so if you have any q’s feel free to ask! I will say that at the beginning of the session they constantly reiterated the importance of essays.
EDIT: also lol, one of my essays was eerily similar. I wrote about 3D printed prosthetics.
@jasishere Thanks! When did you find out you made the state application level
We found out the county sent us to the state level mid-Nov I think. Final acceptances/rejections were end of March, but they (awkwardly) sent out the rejections first… I got my acceptance like a week later but my friend got his a few days earlier than me. Needless to say, I spent a lot of that week consumed by the thought that my rejection got lost in the mail hahaha
@jasishere Oh gosh so they’re coming out soon
Should be, but idk honestly! It probably depends on the individual counties and idk if we’re in the same one
So I made it to the state level! More than 50 kids in my school district applied and they took 20 to the state level. After reading everything, do you think I have a shot?
Congratulations! It depends on how many are competing for the arts from your county. If lots of students are like you, competing for math/nat sci/social sci, that’ll slim your chances since there’s a limit based on county size or something. Like I said, most of it comes down to essays, but I think you have a good shot
