Governor's School

I am currently a sophomore student at my local high school and I was just wondering on my chances of getting into Governor’s school in NC. I plan on going into the Natural Science area. I had gotten a 97 on my biology exam (we have to submit this to the school if we want to be eligible) ended with a 97 in that class, and finished chemistry with a 100 (93 on the exam.)
I am also a dual enrolled student at my high school (also i am taking AP classes). I volunteer at my local animal shelter, and work for a non-profit group with my family. I plan on volunteering at my local hospital junior year and creating a club.
At the moment I have a 4.4 weighted GPA, a 3.9 unweighted GPA (i had gotten an 89 in my math 2 class, only B on my transcript). I am ranked #1 (tied w/ others) out of 84 of the students in my class. I have yet to take my SAT (going in the summer) and got a 23 on my PreAct (did not study since it was unsuspected).

THere is a boarding school in New England called "Governors Academy, so folks might be confused by this post?

Your grades and test scores are fine. For science, you will need a science geared resume. Have you competed in science Olympiad? Won any awards or science fairs? Those extras would make you competitive. My D20 is going for dance. She’s won many dance awards, and has a leadership position in her studio, just for reference. Think about how you can craft your resume.

@chb088 there isn’t a science Olympiad at my high school. Since my high school is kind of small (about 300 and some people) we really don’t do awards unless its student of the month which isn’t academic based.

@CaliMex I mentioned that it is the Governor’s School in North Carolina.

I know you did… but some folks might click on the subject heading without knowing that

Here’s another thread that might be helpful/relevant: http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/summer-programs/2130583-nc-governor-school.html#latest

Unfortunately I do not think grades and test scores alone will be sufficient to get you in.

Hey! I got into GSW this year for Natural Sciences from a very competitive county, but I think that your quantitative stats aren’t bad…but yes as @chb088 stated you need a more science-oriented resume. For example, I have volunteered at hospitals, participate in SciOly/HOSA, and take a lot of AP STEM. Also, any leadership you might have had before in ECs would highlight your app more  hope this helps!

That helped a lot. would you recommend taking ap calc ab or ap chem junior year if i want to go into natural science
