Govt. major at WM vs govt. at George Washington

Hi guys! I was wondering if anyone could give me any insight into govt at William and mary. I know they have the internship semester in DC. But George Washington is right in DC and I’m a little unsure what would be a better fit for me. Of course, after I graduate I want to be in politics and all. Any insight would be appreciated!

GW typically nets to a high cost. Is that okay for your family?

When I did the Net Price calculator it was fine. . . . assuming its within a couple of thousand dollars then yes.

Both W&M and GWU have excellent Government/Political Science departments. The GOVT faculty at W&M are consistently good teachers. I know less about the teaching at GW. Each semester W&M has a program in DC on a rotating set of topics. The students take two classes and have an internship. It is likely that you will find a topic that meets your needs or interests. W&M also has summer programs in DC. You can also find a summer internship on your own or with help from faculty. If you aren’t troubled by the cost of GW, then the cost of spending a summer in DC will not be a problem. You should be making a decision, not on the strengths of the government departments or internship opportunities, but on which campus and college feels right to you. One is urban and the other is not. If you want to be in a big city, go for GW. W&M has a more relaxed feel. Visit them both and that will probably make the decision for you. Both schools have large numbers of graduates working in politics in DC, and both have extensive networks of alumni who can help you along the way.

Thank you! I did visit both campuses and I absolutely love both campuses, even though they are both very different.
