Gow vs. Eagle Hill…any insight?

We are trying to decide between Gow and Eagle Hill. Any experience with either? Advice?

We know a family who are very happy at Eagle Hill after 3 years of their son attending. The sports program was a key factor in their decision over Gow and another school. Participating in team sports was important for their child’s self esteem and emotional growth. They also like that the teams play in a conference.

My kid is NOT sporty at all. Wondering if he could still find a friend group at EH.

Yes - definitely. This is not a sports centric school. However, the school encourages kids to try new things and be on a team. The student I know there had only played one sport (not well) before arriving….but he was exposed to new sports and team options - learning a new sport gave him greater confidence and enjoyment for engaging in a healthy endeavor. This was a kid who preferred to stay in his room and isolate, before coming to Eagle Hill. Socializing and engagement opportunities are important aspects of the BS experience. Most schools have some type of sport and EC requirement.

I think it would depend on your child’s LD and how much intervention they need. I’ve heard great things about Gow’s reading recovery for kids that were significantly behind in decoding, where Eagle Hill has more “quirky” kids and their reading intervention program is not as formalized as Gow.

Gow is very homophobic if that matters to you. Eagle Hill is hands down a drastically better place in general.

Although I have minimal experience with the school, I’m friends with a member of the Gow family(quite literally with the last name), and he has spoken about how the school tends to deal with kids with dyslexia much better compared to other LDs. I guess it does really depend on what you’re looking for. Take this with a grain of salt though, this did come from an 18 year old.
