GPA 3.6 - What're my chances of getting into Yale?

Hi all,

I'm currently a Junior and would appreciate if you could share your thoughts as to whether i have any chance at getting into Yale Undergrad school.

Cumulative GPA: 3.6

SAT IIs:

Physics - 740 (10th grade)
Math IIc - 720 (11th grade)
French (predicted) - Above 700

APs:

Sophomore year:
AP Physics B - 4

Junior year (predicted realistic scores):
AP Compgov - 5
AP Macroeconomics - 5
AP Microeconomics - 5
AP Calc AB - 5
AP French Lang - 4
AP English Lang - 4

I would say I have had an extremely challenging high school career. I'm an international student who has had to study middle school in another country. Thus, I was poorly prepared for high school. In an attempt to improve myself, I immediately embarked on a rigorous course load upon entering high school. During my freshman year I doubled up in math and during my sophomore year in science (one of which was AP Physics B) as well as managed to skip a year of french. I am not in NHS, but I am in French Honor Society (having been inducted 10th grade).

As for Extracurriculars, I'm currently President of Business club and I take horseriding outside of school. I'm also a pianist (though not professional :P) and have completed my Gr.8 ABRSM examination two years ago.

I am looking to eventually major in Law, therefore will most likely do Pre-Law at Yale.

My understanding (common consensus) is that Yale's admissions is very tough. I do not have a fantastic GPA, and the only elements that may perhaps distinguish me from other applicants is the fact that I've had to struggle very hard, and the fact that I've taken this many APs. The course load i have chosen for my senior year reflects my seriousness when it comes to education:

Senior year:
AP Stats
AP Calc BC
AP French Literature
AP English Literature
AP Music Theory

I will be self-studying AP French Literature as there is no such course offered at my school.

Would appreciate if you could help me out here and let me know if I should even apply to Yale.

Thanks,
Quesce :)

Never hurts to go for it. Keep in mind, however, that you'll be competing with a pool of people with far higher stats and international students going through similar difficulties (you didn't specify, so I'm assuming you're talking about simply adjusting to the country and system etc) yet coming out with a better score. Also, the US system praises good EC's above uniform academic achievement, in my experience (I come from another country too, and know how much weight other cultures put on the sheer grades).

Thanks frrrph,

Specifically, I've been out of my country ever since the age of 6. I've studied in China for 5 years followed by South Africa for 3 (where my middle school was). I'm now back in my home country of Singapore and studying at the American school here, where the difference in the standard of education is enormous.
