GPA and admissions

Do admissions officers pay close attention to high school courses taken in middle school such as biology, geometry, and algebra 1? I took these classes and earned B’s in these classes because I was unaware that these classes were going to be on my high school transcript. For this semester I ended with a 4.0 unweighted GPA while taking rigorous classes. Would an admissions officer take the middle school earned grades in to account and would it have an effect on my admission?

What is your overall UW gpa (including the B’s since they’re on your HS transcript)?

Admissions will look at your high school transcripts - grades you received - in 9 - 12 grade, That’s it. No middle school.

3.68 with the middle school grades and 3.875 without middle school grades. I am currently a freshman, but I am very far ahead of the rest of my class. For example I am the only student taking AP calculus ab as a sophomore and one of the few who are taking AP physics as a sophomore.

No, middle school grades will not be taken into account.

Thank you so much everyone!

@skieurope but what if they’re middle school grades (8th grade), for high school requirements Algebra I? These were sent to my HS and my GC said they’ll be on my transcript

College admissions don’t look at grades from prior to 9th grade. If you took a “high school requirement” during middle school, it’s likely you took some course successive to that which will demonstrate that the requirement is met, or is irrelevant. This is easy to see with languages. And advanced Latin student may enter 9th grade with a couple of years in Latin. He/she starts with Latin III. In sophomore year, he/she takes AP Latin. Latin I and II never show up on the transcript. But successful completion of AP Latin makes the missing classes irrelevant.

This entirely depends on the HS. With some HS’s, MS classes will not appear on the transcript, others will appear with no grade or with a notation of CR, and yet others will have the grade. Even if the grade shows, it may or may not be used as part of the HS GPA calculation.

Regardless, colleges do not care what grades you received in middle school. There are many, many other factors about college admissions that you need to worry about; this is not one of them.
