GPA and Class Rank and Competitiveness

I am confused in this subject. I have a 4.0 UW and a ~4.76 W and I am ranked 5-10 out of 210. So, I don't call my school really competitive, because the lower half is full of stereotypical northern VA students;however, the public middle school and the private school merge to make our school, so the top 30 kids are uber-competitive. I came form the public schools, and the private schools got a huge head start GPA wise. So, what I am asking, is my school considered competitive? Should I metention the fact I am surpassing private school kids who had a head start?

What is a GC?

But my Guidance counsler is leaving this year. We are obviously getting a new one next year, but her rec won't be very personal at all.

How do the private school kids get a GPA head start or advantage? Do they have middle school grades that count toward their HS GPA? That doesn't seem fair.

Yes, but so do the some public school kids. However, the private school gives a much better education, so, the first years are harder for public school kids. Do you see what I mean. The kids started off at different levels of knowledge, and I was in the lower half. I myself got 8 HS credits before I even entered it.

OP: It will be very difficult to overcome the class rank with anything else unless your school is sending 10 -12 students to top colleges.

Colleges will receive a school profile which will detail the level of competition at your school--also if you're ranked 5-10 you have nothing to worry about. Being in the top 5% is nothing to sneeze at. Also, I'm sure that most colleges understand how -- generally speaking -- competitive Northern Virginia high schools are.

Thanks for the comments. We have a ton of people who go to UVA, but only one girl is going to the Ivy League.
