GPA and Personal Issues

Hi everyone -

So I'm just finishing my first semester of second year, and I haven't done nearly as well as I hoped I would. I finished first year with a 3.3 and I anticipate this semester I'll finish with about the same. I've struggled the past year and a half with anxiety and an eating disorder...I'm better now, but my improvement came about mid-semester this year, and it's been hard to pull my grades up.
Now that I'm better and can focus on school without this in my way, I'm sure I'll do much better next semester/in the years to come. I'm just wondering - is this going to seriously affect my med school application (in terms of GPA alone)? I'm not so much worried about the ECs - I volunteer at my old high school, at my university's peer counselling center, with a children's theatre group and I'm planning to volunteer at a crisis center next year. I'm just wondering about the GPA.

Thanks :)

I am a little confused by your post. You are asking us if your gpa this semester will affect your gpa when applying to medical school. The answer is 100% yes…

Are you asking if a 3.3 one semester ruins your chances of admission? No. Just make sure the rest are as high as you can while doing everything else that is important

Sorry, yes, I meant will it ruin my chances of admission. Thanks :)

It won’t ruin your chances of admission!
Don’t lose faith. About 30% of people with a 3.3 get into a US MD med school. And you’re planning to improve, lifting you above that category.

I am fighting a lower gpa, and I managed to sneak into my state school this year. It can be done.
Good luck.
