I heard, that every class in Wellesley has to have average grade B and many students get lower grades than they supposed to because of that. Is that true? Is it worth to go to Wellesley if I’m planning grad school later and will need a good GPA?
Yes, Wellesley is a fine school. It will definitely help improve your writing.
I’m not a native speaker, but I’m working every day to improve my English
It’s not every class, and it’s a B+, not a B. Here is part of the policy:
More information on the policy is here: https://www.wellesley.edu/registrar/grading/grading_policy
Many Wellesley students go on to grad school. In fact, 80% of Wellesley alumnae go on to graduate or professional school within 10 years of graduation. An explanation of Wellesley’s grading policy is included with transcripts.
No one is cheated out of a fair grade at Wellesley. If you earn an A, you will get one. Every year, students graduate with honors and students are admitted to top graduate schools. I can’t imagine turning down a chance to get a Wellesley degree for fear of having a lower GPA than you might get somewhere else. If you get in and want to attend, don’t let the grading policy deter you!
lol, i’m gonna be honest here, grading is hard. it kills your gpa once in awhile and getting hit with grade deflation is a dime a dozen. on the other hand, wellesley is a hard school and it will drive your motivation to do better, and there are a lot of ways to improve that are free and provided by the school/other students. first-year writing courses are mandatory for a reason, and the pltc have writing tutors who are students that are hired by the school to help improve and discuss your writing, so that’s not a problem. there are international students there as well, so they have a range of people who are able to help.
a lowered gpa is definitely a problem, and i would say if wellesley’s name and prestige does help a bit in helping mitigate grade deflation. it’s difficult, but not impossible to get an A, but as common knowledge dictates, B+'s are the average. if you’re looking for consistent GPA boosts and a way to get a high GPA/easily get a 4.0, wellesley definitely is not the place.
