GPA calculating question

My school gives an A a 4.0, B+ = 3.7, B = 3.4, and B- = 3.0
Is this standard for the 4.0 scale? or is a B usually a 3.0 flat?
I have a 3.9 right now and would a college like NYU recalculate my GPA on a 3.0 = any B scale? This would drastically affect my GPA. Thx for future input!

I don't think UC GPA differentiates between B+ or B-...but I could be wrong.

so whats an A- worth at your school?

Most schools do recalculate your GPA using a 4.0 scale. An A is 4, B is 3, C is 2.0...most do not use the minus or plus but will give extra consideration for honors and AP classes.

damn, b/c the 4 B's i had were B+'s, which are a 3.7, not a 3.0 on my school's scale. This is not good, my GPA is going to plummet.

and do most highschools not consider pluses or minuses?

Is the average highschool GPA, as listed on the princeton review.com, calculated using a scale not considering pluses or minuses?

ahhhhhhhh please help me

bumpppppppppp

Most colleges will unweight your GPA, and yes, lose the pluses and minuses.

A normal unweighter GPA looks somethin like this:
A: 4.0
A-: 3.7
B+: 3.4
B: 3.0
B-: 2.7
C+: 2.4
C: 2.0

thx, does anyone know if NYU recalculates grades, and if so, to what scale?

NO...NYUs average GPA is 3.6 on a 4.0 scale.

And I also agree with Collegegrl that that is how schools determine your unweighted GPA. Thats how my high schools does it atleast. I don't think NYU will really go through all the trouble trying to recaluclate your GPA. They look at whatever they get in context to how your schools does grades.

Good Luck

thx everyone for the input i really appreciate the time you've all taken to respond.

It's just im going nuts because as of now i have like a 3.9 UW and if i calculate my grade using collegegirl's rubric, i have a 3.7 UW, which is a big difference. So, i guess ill just hope for the best :)

bumppppppppppppppp anyone else?

what would an A- be? a 90-92?
would that mean that any grade above a 93 is an A = 4.0?

yeah...90-92 is A-, 93+ is A

wow that makes my UW GPA a 4.0 for sophmore and junior years, and my total UW is 3.95, that seems high for being 38th in a class of 449.
