GPA Calculation at Penn State

Question on the GPA - Does Penn State recalculate the GPA on their own scale or just take what your school does? For example - my school gives a 3.0 for a B - but a 3.5 for a B in an honors class and a 4.0 for a B in an AP class. So if I had just those 3 B's - I would have a 3.5 GPA.

Also - I have studied Art since I was a kid - including classes at Maryland Institute - so it has been a serious subject for me - and I have taken art history and portfolio development at the honors level all 4 years of high school. In contrast - some kids take art as a "recreational" subject to fulfill their 3 credits of fine art requirement. Does Penn State go back and take those credits out when they compute my GPA?

What about religion (I go to a Catholic school)?

Anybody ever ask admissions about this kind of stuff?

The answer is no. Penn State does not recalculate GPA but indeed takes what your school calculates.

Any and all credits that you have remain as is. Penn State doesn't touch your GPA, only looks at it.

Okay - thats great - I'd hate to have my fine arts dismissed or devalued - they are a serious subject for me that I plan to continue in college - not only do I love creating art - I want to be a dentist and one of the entry criteria is demonstrating manual dexterity.

One of the other colleges said they recalculate everybody's GPA on their own standard - and take only what they consider academic subjects - and they weight honors clases the same as AP.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Are you in yet?
