GPA calculation for internationals?

Hey guys ^_^

I'm a German international student. How do universities in America calculate the GPA of international students? I'm asking because our grading system is slightly different; We have six grades instead of five and an A in Germany is much harder to obtain than an A in America. Moreover, an A in Germany is VERY rare.
I'm one of the few who obtain As in classes. How do Admission officers respond to these cases? Do they use the American GPA (A = 1, B = 2 etc.) system or do they accurately convert German (or international grades whose systems are different) to GPA?

Admission wont accept German transcripts. You need a evaluation e.g. from WES of all your stuff. There is table how they convert grades: [WES Grade Conversion Guide: Germany](Country Resources - WES.org)

However, they calculate 1 German credit hour = 0.5 US credit hour.

To calculate you GPA, please see the example there: [UMM | Office of the Registrar | GPA Calculation](http://www.morris.umn.edu/services/registrar/gpacalc.html)

Hope this helps.
