<p>I doubt hedge fund managers are as exciting to colleges as they were in recent years. Most have lost much of their net worth in recent months. That said, a large enough donation will get you in anywhere as long as you're reasonably within the range of the bottom of the class. Happens everyday among the Wall Streed crowd.</p>

<p>4.1 uw. <-- an impossible number I know. But it's the truth. Nobody gets accepted into ivys. the students there simply interbreed to produce new incoming freshmens</p>

<p>Your best bet is to look at the admission websites to get an idea for what the breakdowns are for the entering class.</p>

<p>You can see that, when considering everyone from the top decile, only 20% of those applicants were accepted. Chances, from there, drop drastically when you get into lower deciles (effectively near-zero). </p>

<p>GPA's quite a relative thing, since some schools are easier than others... but <em>generally speaking</em>, I'd say a 3.7-3.8 UW is a good place to be. Anything lower, and I think chances start to drop by quite a bit, regardless of which Ivy you apply to.</p>

<p>there is no limit. and colleges recalculate your GPA anyway. GPAs can be calculated differently at every school. it's how the application is as a whole. of course GPA is one of the main factor, but it isn't THE factor.
I applied to Cornell with an 87 average, but I think that the rest of my application is very good. dont apply to colleges based solely on your GPA.</p>

<p>if you have nothing special or hookish, then even a 4.0 is looking doubtful... if you have truly amazing ecs and awards, it can and has been done by 3.0ers. No cut off because you can overcompensate in many ways for subpar gpa</p>
