I'm in the top 10 percent of my classes, all my core classes are honor and/or AP.
The core classes and foreign language GPA evaluation gives me:

3.7: 9th-11th
3.6: 10th-11th

Does Cornell not count 9th grade year, and if so, will a 3.6 hurt my application If I do well in everything else? I'm applying to the college of engineering.

As far as I can tell they calculate all four years. I honestly can't tell you what a 3.6 will do for your application. GPAs are faulty indicators due to differences between high schools. What's your class rank?

I estimate I'm probably 40/650 to 50/650.

Well, you're in the top 10%, which means that your GPA will not hurt your application.

Alright, thanks for that info.

Top x percent might not be a good indicator anyway. At my friend's school, anyone who gets straight A's is automatically in top 1%, regardless of courses. The sad part of it all is that at least 5% of the students pull straight A's!

After four semesters, I was 3rd in my class with a total of 4 Bs. (650 kids). However, now I got 4 As, 4 Bs this semester, with the weight that means I have a 3.875 this semester. The cumulative GPA is what's taken for rank. I have a 3.92 cumulative with the weight, my school's moderately competitive. I hope that that's high enough to stay in the top 10 percent.

The majority of Cornell admits are in the top 10% of their classes. If you're in the top 10%, it won't get you in, but it won't hurt you either.
