GPA Frustration!!

Don't you just wanna scream at the class ranking system sometimes??!! So here's my sob story...at the end of the first freshman semester, I was ranked 20th out of my class of about 700 students. Then, because I made a low A in one of my unweighted courses (damn you Latin I!!), I wound up dropping 11 spots. I've been fighting to get back up since the begginning of sophomore year, but right now I'm only ranked 18th out of my class (which now has less than 600 students). A lot of students took five weighted courses last year, but I could only take four weighted classes (due to the design of my school's foreign language program). I think that I may be 12th or 13th by the end of this semester. However, I don't think that this will be enough to get into my top dream schools.

Has anyone else experienced this kind of frustration? If so, maybe we can bemoan together. If not, you can just ignore my whining (lols). :)

12th out of ~600 will not keep you out of your dream schools, jeez. That's still the top 2 percent, it does not matter AT ALL until you get down below the top 5% or something. I mean, being 1st might help you, but being 12th won't hurt you.

Well my school gives both the weighted and unweighted GPA. Currently my weighted GPA is ranked 1/400 but my unweighted is 48/400 even though I've gotten only about 2 B's (classes that no one or maybe one person would an A in) in 6 semesters. The massive amounts of people at my school who just take easy classes to get A's really annoys me.

I totally know what you mean. I made the mistake of talking one less weighted class, and one more unweighted class freshman year, so it totally screwed my weighted GPA for that year. This year I took seven weighted classes first semester, and six this semester, but I don't think it will help me all that much. Last year I was ranked 40-some out of ~650. I have 4.0 UW and about 4.7 W. It's just annoying that I'm taking all these hard classes, but am probably still behind my classmates who, with the exception of perhaps one or two, are in no where near as difficult classes as I am as a sophomore. I want to see what my ranking is now, hopefully it's at least in the 20s.

Non-ranking schools ftw!

Dude! Relax! I can't believe you're freaking out! You obviously have the grades to go anywhere you want! Colleges will LOVE you! Give yourself a break, you may even be okay enough to have a bit of a life, unlike the rest of us. I'm 21 out of a class of 200, and am eligible for anything but the ivy league, you're doing much better than I.

"Non-ranking schools ftw!"

yeah man!

Uhh, relax. My class rank wasn't so hot after last semester (after being told I was in the top 5%, they basically pulled a "whoops, I guess not!") and I still made it into great schools. Don't oversimplify the college admissions process by complaining about your excellent standing.
