GPA improvement-honors vs CP

My son is a sophomore in HS and his GPA is only about 2.7. He is in an honors bio class and getting a C. The teacher keeps telling him that is a good grade for the class but my husband and I are concerned about his GPA. I know I want him in a CP science next year but have we done him a disservice by keeping him in this honors class? So much emphasis on a GPA make me feel like he should step the course level down. ugh!

How does your son feel about the class? Does he like it? Does he feel like he’s sufficiently challenged but not struggling? I would say if he is indeed struggling to keep his head above water then he should probably move down next year, or even now. Does he know yet if he wants to major in something science related? If he does maybe getting a tutor might make the difference instead of moving down. Let your son weigh all the options then let him decide which path to take.

He stuggles to hold the C. He agrees to the CP level next year.

Does your school give extra weighting to an honors course? If so, then that C might be a B in reality (for GPA calcs). That is something you might want to check and consider before making your decision.

Yes, they do and that is what I was thinking.
