GPA is absolutely atrocious... but do i still have a chance at getting in??

<p>Hi,</p>

<p>I'm a sophomore in high school and I was wondering if I would have a good chance of getting into the colleges listed below based off these:</p>

<p>1.) 1st place in my state, freshman year for scenario writing competition
2.) went to internationals at MSU for scenario writing program and placed 3rd
3.) 2nd place in the state, sophomore year for same competition
4.) 2nd place in the state for the future problem solving competition
5.) top 6th pianist in my state (competition invited 550 highschools to participate and only chose six pianists)
6.) played in carnegie hall multiple times
7.) elected secretary for two years at student run organization that helps blind (Leo Club) outside of school
8.) freshman class VP
9.) in MUN (attended 4 national conferences), debate club (JV this year but Varsity next year), and track (JV)
10.) played piano at carnegie hall twice
11.) 3.56 unweighted GPA (last year) will get 3 more B's this year; all honors freshman and sophomore year
12.) four AP classes and all honors scheduled for junior year; plan on getting 4.0 unweighted
13.) took practice SAT and got 2100; will raise to atleast 2300 (certain)
14.) editor of school newspaper for two years (opinion and news section); will be editor in chief senior year (talked to advisor, position is certain)
15.) semi-finals at tri-state competition where only 10 pianists were selected in my age group out of a total of 100-200 that tried out
16.) organized various piano recitals at nursing homes
17.) over 300 volunteering hours
18.) will be either vice president/ president of our district's Leo Club by end of junior year.. i am 98% sure of this, as I came extremely close to winning vice president during this year's club elections.
19.) 3.78 unweighted GPA FOR SURE senior year. this is assuming that i get 4.0 junior and senior year.. which i KNOW i will be able to get because i've just been lazy for freshman and sophomore year. although this is a horrible gpa, i would have a 3.82 if my HS counted gym and driver's ed as part of gpa. unfortunately.. they don't :(</p>

<p>SCHOOLS I'M INTERESTED IN:
-princeton (dream school)
-cornell
-brown
-duke
-nyu
-johns hopkins
-carnegie mellon</p>

<p>Are these good credentials?? I know I don't have my SAT II's or ACT yet, but I'm sure I'll do fine on those, but what I'm worried about is my GPA. This has been something that has been bothering me for the past five months. Please... what are my chances?</p>

<p>Enjoying your life doesn’t quite make the list, eh?</p>

<p>Your GPA is not gonna kill you. Like you, I don’t have my test scores thus… can’t be chanced.</p>

<p>Provided that you complete all of the things on your list, you should have a stellar chance at the schools you listed. Just focus on doing what you enjoy and on getting good grades and test scores.
Also, you don’t have to repost this thread if you feel you aren’t getting enough replies; you can just bump it.</p>

<p>haha sorry about the whole reposting thing. i just joined tonight when i was researching colleges. what do you mean by “bump it?”</p>

<p>When you “bump” a thread, you simply post the word “bump” on the thread. The new post will make your thread return to the top of the list of all of the threads in the forum, and will thus increase the chances of others reading your thread.</p>

<p>GPA might bring you down for Princeton
cornell - Match
brown - Match
duke - Match
nyu - Low Reach
johns hopkins - Low Reach
carnegie mellon - Match</p>

<p>If you can bring your SAT’s up to 2300 and GPA up to 3.78, then you have a good shot at Duke, John Hopkins, and Cornell. If not, then NYU is your best bet.</p>
