GPA problem

Hi there.

I moved from the UK to the US when i was 13yrs old. I was placed in Freshman year, since i was moved up a grade. First semester, I got a 3.5 GPA. 2nd semester, I moved schools, and i got all a’s and 1 b (3.86 GPA). Sophomore just started, i’m taking 2 math classes (Geometry, Alg 2), 2 AP classes (AP Seminar, AP WH), Honors English, Chemistry, and Spanish 3 (I skipped Spanish 2 and i’m having a hard time in Spanish 3). This semester is not going very well AT ALL for me. My GPA is exactly a 3.0, and it looks like i can get a max of only a 3.4. If I do get a 3.0 GPA, will it be affect my chances of getting into a good college dramatically? If I do much better 2nd semester of Sophomore year, will the college overlook first semester? Thanks

depends on what you consider a good college

Places like UW or Berkeley

Schools won’t get your first semester grades. They only get the final grade for every course. Don’t listen to doom sayers. Try to do well as you can while balancing involvement in ECs with academics. Don’t worry about one semeter!

It depends on the HS. Some give semester/trimester grades; some only give year-end.

Agreed.
