First semester, I received an A- in English, B in calc, and two other A's, giving me around a 3.6 GPA. How does that look to the business school? Is that a good gpa for admission or would i need a higher one? thanks

Also, would taking acc 271 improve my chances? thanks for the help!

Are you a junior or senior? Have you applied to UMich already?
Generally, a 3.6 is on the lower end of the admit average GPA, and Ross is typically more selective. If you earned that 3.6 at a highly ranked, rigorous program, it could be good; but the same gpa at a regular public school would be below the admit average. So there are a lot of different factors.
If you are still a junior – aim for at least a 3.8 or 3.9 to stand a better chance. Good luck!

Kmccrindle, I believe he’s a freshman undergraduate, else it would be odd for him to ask if taking ACC 271 would increase his chances.

I can tell you that Ross definately looks at the difficulty of the classes you took. If your other two As are hard classes, or an A in Econ and an A in a hard class, then you could be looking good. Otherwise I think they try to aim for higher GPAs for LSA students, but you’re not too far from the range, and still have a fair chance.

As for ACC 271. I don’t think it will increase your chances, however from what I hear that’s the GPA blower for Ross students, and if you take it your freshman year the grade wipes out from your Ross GPA or something like that? (Maybe some B-School students can come clarify). Anyway, if you do get into the B-School, it will have been beneficial that you had taken it already.

That doesn’t look horrible but you have to remember that Ross looks carefully at the application as a whole (ECs, essays, etc.)

Oops, sorry – quite another story if that’s the UM GPA.

3.6 is fine, just make sure everything else is good too. Bschool is not hard to get into.

thanks, the other two classes arent jokes but arent hard nessecarily, next semester, im taking econ, stats, pysch, and a language class. The gpa this semester is prob going to be a 3.6 and next semester, im looking at the same. If i got like an A- in econ, with the A- Eng, B in calc, and that gpa, you think that I would be in a good spot?

yeah, people with far worse gpa’s have gotten in, just be sure not to write completely ■■■■■■■■ essays and be decently involved with activities

gotcha, Im hoping it will be a good enough gpa
