Hey, on my schools scale, my gpa is a 3.63, but on a regular 4.0 scale, its a 3.77. Mostly because of band/pe classes Also, my rank is 17/774. Would the adcoms see the 3.63 and automatically send it to the reject bin? The rest of my application is pretty good(2380 SAT, 35 ACT, research for intel, urm status). I'm just wondering how much this would affect me. Thanks

Don’t worry about it. Class rank is a far better indicator of your academic ability than GPA because the GPAs across high schools vary. For example, my high school, a GPA of 3.90 is the top 28% mark, but at yours, a 3.77 is the top 2%. They won’t auto-reject you, especially because your ACT score is exceptionally high.

It depends on how difficult your courses are.

All of my course are AP/IB, except for band, pe, and French II due to a schedule conflict.

Everything is considered in context- so it isn’t even true that rank is more important than GPA. For example, at a very small school rank (and percentages) become exaggerated, so it’s not fair to compare the top 5% of a large school to the top 5% of a small school.

They will see information about your school, its grading policies, etc. So don’t worry about it.

More importantly, there’s no magic threshold of GPA (or any other number) below which all applications get automatically “sorted into the reject pile.” And what makes you think that if such a line existed, it would be between 3.63 and 3.77? :)

You will not go ‘automatically into the reject bin’ based on your GPA.

Thanks for the input everyone :)
