GPA`s

So my school list three GPAs and Im confused as to which ones matter. Iv tried asking but all my friends are confused as well. Theyre cumulative, academic core, and weighted cumulative GPA.
Do you guys have any idea which would colleges look at?

Depends on the college.

Many colleges will recalculate your GPA according to their own system. Some high schools may include gym in the GPA and others don’t. Different high schools assign different weights to honors and AP. Colleges smooth it out to evaluate more fairly and equally, and so their numbers have more meaning to the admissions officers. If you care about class rank, read your school handbook or talk to your guidance counselor to see which GPA is used.

Your schools will get your entire transcript so they will see it all.

You’ll probably want your unweighted cummulative GPA calculated on a 4.0 scale ( A=4, B=3, etc) for college applications.

Ask your high school registrar or counselor to explain the different GPAs on your transcript.

My guess (just a guess) is “weighted” includes additional points for honors or AP classes (for example, an “A” in a regular class = 4 points, an “A” in an honors class may = 5 points, and an “A” in an AP class may = 6 points). Most colleges do not care about the weighted GPA and don’t use it. High schools use it to rank students.

I’m not sure what the “academic core” GPA is … it may be something your school district uses for graduation requirements.

The “cummulative” GPA may be the one you need if it’s on a 4.0 scale. Again, ask your registrar or counselor to clarify.

The only really talk to you when they call you in to talk about your schools if it helps my gpa`s are like cumulative 3.6 core 4.01 and weighted cumulative 4.8. I thought the core would be the one out of 4 but I guess not so.

My guess is that the core GPA includes only certain academic classes (e.g., English, Math, Social Studies, Science, and Foreign Language), but excludes certain less-academic classes (e.g., PE, band, etc.).

You may be able to find a handbook of some sort on your school’s website that would explain the different GPA’s at your school.
