Gpa Scale

How do you figure out GPAat Tufts? Like what's an A, what's a B, etc.?

I think the way colleges look at GPA varies by different school. If the school is well known, competitive, etc, then a lower GPA might still be decent when compared to another low tier school. (Grade inflation etc.)

I say this because I had a low GPA [3.51 weighted], applied Engi ED and still got in. :)

Some schools (UCs come to mind) will re-calculate GPA based on their own classification of the courses. Others say that they don't bother, and simply look at your performance in the context of your school. I believe that Tufts stated that they do the latter. Your school counselor will provide a school profile, which contains quite a bit of statistical information about your school. The admissions office will then look where you fall within the distribution. Translation: school rank matters more than you think, and more than admissions offices are willing to admit.

My bad. I am actually in Tufts already so I was wondering how does the GPA work once you were there. Thanks anyways.

each school recalculates GPA according to their own standards. Some consider it more than others. Most, however, including Tufts, will look more at your grades in key courses and at whether or not you took the most challenging courses available to you, than at your overall GPA.

Grades at Tufts:

4.0 A+ or A
3.66 A-
3.33 B+
3.0 B
2.66 B-

etc...

To qualify for dean's list (on a semester-by-semester basis), you should have a 3.4 or higher GPA average for all your classes. Pass/Fail classes don't factor in; and you have to be taking at least four classes to be considered for Dean's List.

The average GPA of graduating Tufts seniors is about a 3.2, or so I've heard. There i no real grade inflation at Tufts; though there is deflation in some classes. But for the most part, I think 3.2 sounds like right on-the-mark fair.
