My daughter (junior, competitive hs) has a 3.9 uw GPA (all Honors, will have 5 AP’s on graduation) VERY strong upward trend. She’s not a great test taker. Only took PSAT so far last October -1840. She’s studying like crazy with a tutor for SAT (June) and taking SAT II (math 2 and Physics).

Question, assuming she does well (how well does she have to do?) on SAT I, how much importance does BU place on the SAT II tests?

Thanks so much for any advice?

I got into BU (non-honors unfortunately) this year with a GPA of 3.3 unweighted (4.1+ weighted though) and rather subpar SAT scores (1330/2040). For SAT II's my scores boredered on the 650 ranges (I took Math II and US); I also took Bio in 9th grade and got a pathetic 530... I'm pretty sure your daughter will get in if her SAT score is close to her PSAT score. Actually, with her great GPA, I'm sure she'd be accepted even if it was a little lower. However, if you want scholarships from BU, your SAT will have to the ones outlined at the link below:

^^^Agree with you. I got in with a 1970(1400). An 1840 is by no means bad. With her high GPA she should be good, especially if she has good extracurriculars. As for the SAT IIs, if you want to you can just skip them and take the ACT. She may do better on it and depending on her college to which she is applying it may count for the SAT IIs. I'm not sure about the weight of them though.

No school places tremendous emphasis on SATII's. You need to take them. They do count but they aren't as important as grades and the regular SAT's.

Your daughter is a good candidate for many schools, given her gpa. Being a girl in this ridiculous college market means she might not get in where she absolutely wants to go, but she's a good candidate.

BU won't blindly look at your SAT scores. It sounds like she's doing fantasticly in school. BU likes to take an overall look at the student. So EC's, recommendations and her essay will count too. And an 1840 is not terrible. Standardized tests are a test of intelligence for the most part. Studying cannot increase your score substantially. So just let her do her best and it sounds like she will do fine.
