I am usually a 4.0 GPA student, but this semester I just seemed to slack off a little bit and it’s kind of coming back to bite me. If I end this semester with a 3.3(unweighted) GPA, but continue to get 4.0 unweighted the rest of high school, will I be denied from colleges from UCLA and NYU?
Are you a Sophomore, Junior or Senior? UCLA only uses 10-11th grades in their GPA calculation so a downward trend Junior year could hurt your chances especially since you should consider UCLA a Reach school regardless of your GPA.
I personally think it hurts, especially as a sophomore. If you’re slacking off now, are you positive that you’re going to get a 4.0 the rest of high school? Plus, colleges prefer upwards trends, so I wouldn’t say your situation is really helping you at the moment.
I had a ~3.6 unweighted in HS and was admitted to Stern for the Class of 2020. I believe NYU weighs standardized testing a lot more than they weight grade point average, so as long as your SAT/ACT scores are good you’ll still have a reasonable chance.
UCLA, on the other hand, weighs GPA much more heavily and a 3.3 unweighted over sophomore year will not be overlooked. Try your best to maintain a 4.0 for the rest of high school if possible.
