Hi, I am a sophomore and I screwed up freshman year ending up with a 3.3 gpa. I have strait A’s now as I did before high school so u believe and have been committed to keep this going. Thus, by the end of senior year I can end up with a 3.8 unweighted and since I am in all honors and AP as much as offered at my school, I can finish off with a 4.3 weighted gpa. Assuming my community service is nothing that stands out although I went to Iran to help and I used my Spanish 3 skills to tutor Mexicans in math, what are my chances for UCLA (California resident) with 2200s SAT or any other top tiers
Does a 3.1 unweighted freshman year hurt me if I have a perfect UC GPA
Okay, honestly there is no way anyone can tell right now with such limited information, and furthermore, you shouldn’t be worrying right now. Since you are class of 2018, the stats for UCLA could change, and you should focus on finding a major you like and expanding beyond UCLA. Your “chances” also depend on your major, race, and often times luck (the competitiveness of the stats of your peers). You also don’t know what could happen second semester or junior year. UCs do only look at sophomore and junior year grades as well as the rigor of senior year. Use your school’s Naviance to compare stats if you are really worried next year, but as a sophomore and no major indicated there is no way to tell.
I’m just assuming for the rest. But I am Iranian, Persian(same thing) Farsi was my first language but I am fluent in English, born in U.S.
@Cjchasinglife what would you recommend I should do for EC
Good ECs are ones you do for a long time, preferably before high school and throughout high school. If you are into STEM, join a STEM club on campus and try to get good leadership positions. Likewise for business, enter FBLA or DECA and compete. Speech and debate is also good, but all of these take a lot of dedication. Sports are also nice, but only if you are guaranteed on varsity. If you are specific with your major, I could tell you more specifically ideas.
UC’s do not consider Freshman grades in their GPA calculation but will use your Freshman grades to make sure you meet the a-g course requirements. 10-11th grades are calculated into your UC GPA. You have 2 years to work on your GPA and you are on the right track. No worries, just enjoy HS.

Too early to worry (as @gumbymon advised you). Just do your best and hope for best!
@cjchasinglife I made JV baseball for sophomore year. Should I do it? And also, what would my chances be if I was applying now for ucla
@persia5 sorry for the late reply. If you love the sport, do it, but don’t it because it would just be another line on your college application. Your chances are still based on your major.
@Gumbymom @cjchasinglife I got a 2-day suspension in sophomore year for throwing yogurt at my friend, not a close friend, but a friend. I do regret it and an learned how inconsiderate I was but I am good with the person, but this mark follows. The suspension is under “bullying”. How much does this affect my chances at UCLA with a 2350 SAT and a 4.21 UC GPA?? (MY counselor understands this was a one-time thing, but she must write what happened but understanding who I havebecome and I am the leader of Persian club and have made anti-bullying club)
