Gpa

Hello--I have a question. To give an little understanding of my situation: I'm a junior in hs. I transferred to my current high school in the fall. I've had a very steep rising trend in my grades this year compared to my grades from 9th/10th grades. Going with the grades I have earned at my new school so far (all A's in an all honors, AP curriculum) my GPA at the end of the year would be quite high.
My guidance counselor however told me my GPA will be calculated also using my grades from 9th/10th from the old school. I'm disappointed about that because in 9th/10th grade, although I was an excellent student at my old school and hardworker, I struggled in some classes, and consequently although I have some A's from then I also had a few low B's and some C's Plus, that my old school is nothing like my current school academically so I don't think it's right to mix in the grades all the same as if it was done at one school. Anyway, the low B's and C's are really going to bring my GPA and class rank down. I am in a small class however (not sure if that makes a difference?) of only 49 students.
I thought that when you go to a new school you start with a 0.00 GPA. Has this also been the case for people you may have run into that have transferred high schools or colleges? This has been the case for college students I know that transferred colleges. Well, my question is...is this situation going to be a hindrance for my college admissions?
I'd appreciate hearing from you if anyone is aware of this sort of thing. thanks a lot...

I don't know this to be true, but I highly suspect that your "problem" is altogether too common. In today's transient society, a very high percentage of kids have attended more than one HS. So most colleges ignore what your school says about your GPA and they'll recalculate it according to their own methodology. As for your class rank, that sucks and you should demand they don't do this. Most small schools don't report a class rank, from what I've read.
