GPAs, Unweighted, Weighted, WHAT?

im applying to many colleges but the main ones are…

Michigan - their gpa is really wierd frum what i hear

Princeton

Yale

Stanford

UCBerkeley

Duke

Penn

Can ANYONE tell me how they calculate their GPAs…like drop freshman year?..include 1st sem of senior year barring EDs…do they drop nonacademic classes? And do they look at Uw or Weighted?

Also…i attend a catholic school so would religion be considered nonacademic, as well as computer programs class?

princeton adn berkeley ignore frosh grades, but not sure about others.

Berkeley, as all UC's, calculate a weighted gpa based on UC-approved honors, AP and IB, 'a-g' courses. All AP and IB are approved, the issue is what UC considers 'honors' and qualifies for a bonus point. Just bcos your school calls it an honors class, doesn't mean that UC will approve it for a bonus point. Religion, unless its a theoretical comparative religion class, is typically excluded. College Prep Computer Science counts as an elective. Non-traditional academic classes, such as PE, Health, auto shop, etc. are not counted.

Using Soph & Jr grades only, UC adds a bonus point (A=5.0) to those approved courses, but caps the bonus points at 8 semesters, or four full year classes. Note, the UC app is due in November, so senior grades are typically not used, but they maybe for borderline cases.

Calif HS students can check out their classes online, but unsure about non-residents.
