I would like to know if I can get into a decent grad school or what I can do to get in. I have a 2.9 cumulative GPA but a 3.8 Semester GPA. I fell off the band wagon my sophomore year which is why my cumulative dropped. I am trying hard to bring my GPA back up and my overall cumulative. I am in several organizations, work part time, hold leadership roles, in the academic fraternities, and have studied abroad in another country and with the UN. I am interested in applying for international studies or political science programs. I am currently looking at U of San Fran. They have a min GPA of 3.0 and do not require a GRE for my program. Is this school too ambitious for me, or are grad schools overall too difficult for me to get into?
Even if you could get in, why would you go?
What is the purpose of the grad degree? In other words, why Grad School?
I would like to get a masters instead of just having a bachelors degree.
Why? Master’s degrees aren’t just something to collect for personal fulfillment; they’re supposed to be credentials for career advancement.
If your undergrad GPA is a 2.9 and USF has a minimum GPA of 3.0…then you can’t get into that program, because you don’t meet the minimum requirements. There may be other programs that will accept you, but they won’t care about your activities other than studying abroad and working with the UN (things that are actually relevant to the international studies degree).
You may want to consider taking some time off and working for a few years, maybe taking a couple classes as a non-degree student to prove that you can achieve.
Yes, that is why I want a masters degree for better career options. I do have this year left to bring my GPA up to a 3.0 but am worried if that is not good enough.
