Grad School and U/RTA auditions.

<p>Hey everyone,
I'm applying to grad school for my MFA in acting and will be auditioning with U/RTA some time in February. I've already applied but I've since found out that it might be smarter to arrange outside auditions with the schools I'm really interested in so that I would have more time with the auditors and actually get seen by the schools I'm interested in. what are your thoughts on this? would it be weird to audition through U/RTA and also audition with the school separately? Should I email the school and ask them about it and tell them I'm very interested in their program?</p>

<p>Also does anyone have more info on the screening process / initial audition? how harshly are they critiquing? I'd be so disappointed if I spent so much time preparing my audition and then never even get in front of the schools I'm interested in. That almost makes it seem not worth it.</p>

<p>I know about the open call audition and I would do that if I wasn't passed on to finals. Also my #1 school doesn't audition through U/RTA but will be coming to Chicago to audition anyway. So I will have at least one outside audition.</p>

<p>oh, one more question if anyone knows: If you get passed on to the final audition and audition for the schools... are you auditioning in front of ALL the schools at once or do you have time slots for different schools... because some of them have different audition requirements on the website? for example, Arizona State lets you do 5 minutes of whatever you're best at (singing, dance, monologues, combat, etc etc) and I wanted to devise a movement piece (with text)... sort of performance art type thing. so should I email them specifically about that? I want to do the best I can with this.</p>

<p>You may want to consider scheduling appointments for the schools in which you are interested in case you do not make it past the screening process. </p>

<p>If you do make it through the screening you will then do your audition package again in front of all of the schools. If you do not make it past through the screening process you will have the option to do your 1-minute audition for the schools that choose to attend the open call.</p>

<p>Not all actors will make it through the screening process. The adjudicators will hold auditionees to a high standard.</p>

<p>If you are called back by a school (either from the full audition or the open call) you will then go to a callback on-site. Some schools may then choose to ask potential students to come to campus for a final callback. </p>

<p>The schools spend a lot of time and energy attending the URTA auditions, I think the actors they callback at URTA are given equal consideration with those they bring to campus. </p>

<p>I have had students who were offered graduate acting program admissions through URTA. I believe that a number of them were required to go to an on campus callback.</p>

<p>PS. I would be prepared with additional material for callbacks (addition monologues, a song [if you sing], etc…). You may or may not be asked to do any additional material, but it always best to be prepared.</p>
