Tisch Drama

Anyone else applying to Tisch for the drama prog.? If yes, then any feedback on the following questions would really be appreciated:

First off, how competitive is it? Going there would be so so so amazing! Do they look at GPA / SAT scores? Or is it more focused on the auditions? Does everyone get an audition (all those who apply to the prog.)? What does the audition consist of? Is it intimidating? Am I required to have prior experience in drama/theater? I'm not saying I don't (I do) but is it like an silent pre-req? Also, I've been in theater productions every year since 3rd/4th grade, but I don't really have any "proof" of any of them! Actually wait, I have proof of 2, but one is a photograph in a newspaper and the other is a review. But what I'm trying to say is, when you apply are you supposed to have like a portfolio with videos of you acting and stuff? Is that what people normally do/have? Coz if so then, I'm kinda screwed, aren't I? I had more questions, but a) I can't think of them right now b) I don't want to annoy you guys by this long list of queries, so this is all for now.

I hope someone answers! And if you do, then thanks, in advance. :)

PS. Any additional information that you think would be useful/helpful -- feel free to add it. Tips are always appreciated.

I am auditioning at Tisch as well. I don’t know the answers toa ll of your questions but I do know quite a bit.

It is quite competitive (unfortunately) and if you are positive you want to study drama, make sure you a backup school with a nonaudition theatre program.

Yes, they look at GPA/SAT, they count that as 50% of the audition process and grades/test scores as the other 50%

You are not flatout required to have experience, but I think that makes the whole situation less intimidating. Experience looks good to the admissions people but it does not by any means make or break your audition. They are looking for potential, a very talented beginner would be fine for them.

You do not need any proof, but you should have a theatrical resume to give them.

A great place to find info about the entire audition process is the Theatre/Drama Major board and the Musical Theatre board (though I’m not sure if you’re even auditioning for MT). The people there are incredibly nice and have helped me quite a bit.

Thank you! What’s a theatrical resume though? Should I just open a MS WORD document and jot down all the productions I’ve been in, the dates, and the roles I’ve played? And no, I wouldn’t be doing MT, just acting, provided that IS a course…
