grad school for Petroleum or Enviro/water resource?

I am graduating with a major in petroleum this year. since prices are down, I am thinking I won’t get a job in the petroleum industry, if i get a job at all. should i be looking at grad school for petroleum, or I have been thinking about water resource engineering. I can’t move for work due to my family and kids being here.

Why would you have chosen petro if you can’t be globally mobile?

Also, you are a women, right? Don’t assume there will be no jobs, women (with children, mature student) in dirty industries might be better off than men just because they are rarer. Have you got any industry insider access for advice? Any female mentors?

I chose petroleum because my school doesn’t offer chemical engineering and i was told at the time that this would be my best route. turns out i don’t mind petroleum. when i first started my degree i was able to move, intact i wanted to. know i have met someone and moving away is not possible, so i am exploring my options. besides teachers i have no mentor or know anyone in the industry, or know anyone to help me get a job. there is a mine around here and i was told to apply there, but i have a feeling they won’t want to hire a petroleum engineer. my school offers petroleum, software, environmental, and industrial engineering so my choices are limited.

Can you say what geographical area you’re confined to?
