Hi everyone,

I am a ChemE from a decent private engineering college in NorthEast. I will be graduating next year this time. So, I have been going through a lot of options. I have a decent GPA so far (3.7) and hope to maintain it by the time I graduate. I am doing research this summer on alternative fuel from algae. I had a research experience as a freshman in something completely unrelated to what I am doing now.
Since, I don't have any "real" internship, right now it seems be be very hard to get a job(I haven't applied to any). So, I have decided to go to grad school in a larger university with opportunities to do coop during the academic year. I have registered for GRE (I am giving the old one).
I also heard from various sources that getting funding for MS is almost impossible. So, I am also giving pHD some serious consideration.
I have taken some electives and I am most interested in energy/materials science field. Financially, energy pays a lot more in today's context so PetroE seems to be the right choice for me.

Is it possible? Am I in a disadvantage (like getting accepted, getting funding)? How long does it take to complete the degree (compared to 4-5 yrs if I go to straight ChemE)

Your Inputs will be highly appreciated!!
