I have come to the realization that I may not be going to gradschool for possibly three years or so. I initially was shooting for 2 years tops starting this year, but it looks like things have changed.

I will have to get an apartment and a part-time job and decrease my course schedule. I recently spent a year abroad (which was great and worth it) so that is the main thing that "set me back."

Anyway, I am rather disappointed, but I suppose 3 years will fly by quickly. Plus that gives me time to narrow my 20 something list of potential grad schools down and to decide what I want focus on and where I want to live.

I hope to go to gradschool in a place with good job prospects so that I can live there permanently...location, quality of life, etc. are very important in addition to academic quality of wherever it is I end up for grad school.

Anyway, I just wanted to know, does taking a long time to finish undergrad school make it harder to get into grad school? Is working art of the time a plus if the work has nothing to do with my major? I am a linguistics major.

Thanks.
